Ms. Gaughran graduated magna cum laude from Brown University, and earned her Juris Doctor from Columbia University School of Law, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. Following law school, she clerked for Senior United States District Judge Whitman Knapp in the Southern District of New York.
After representing school districts in employment litigation and special education disputes, Ms. Gaughran established a solo practice representing disabled students in federal civil rights litigation. Her current practice focuses on special education advocacy, tuition reimbursement claims, student disciplinary matters, testing accommodations on the ACT and SAT exams, and civil rights litigation arising from the abuse of children in educational or custodial settings.
Ms. Gaughran is admitted to practice in New York, and is a member of the bars of the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. She is a member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates.
